On top of Vienna – Make the Antiquarian Book Business even more colourful on UNESCO World Book and Copyright Day 2015!

Moving to new premises is a great and exhausting adventure. Moving with an antiquarian bookshop to new premises is even a greater adventure – and much more exhausting. Every antiquarian bookseller who has undergone this experience, or torture, knows about it.

ILAB President Norbert Donhofer runs a well-known antiquarian bookshop specializing in rare and fine books from all centuries, including natural history, architecture and the history of Austria. For years his shop was located in the heart of Vienna at Palais Schönborn-Batthyány built in the early 18th century by Fischer von Erlach. Months ago he decided to move to new premises. What had been following was hard work, and still is, until on 22 April the new office of Norbert Donhofer Rare Books will be totally installed at Taborstrasse 64/Top 18 – overlooking Vienna with a beautiful view of the historical buildings in the Austrian capital. As always for antiquarian booksellers, books come first. So, everything is arranged, the shelves have been filled with rare and valuable books, maps, prints, and manuscripts – many of them will be shown to visitors for the very first time! The roof terrace, however, still needs decoration.

Only 24 hours after the official opening of his new office, Norbert Donhofer invites customers, colleagues and booklovers to an ILAB Pop Up Book Fair on his roof terrace, to enjoy beautiful books, a beautiful view and a glass of wine. And please, bring flowers for the terrace! Plant them on the terrace and make the antiquarian book business even more colourful! Help fill the – symbolic – empty bookcases with – symbolic – book spines by making a donation for the UNESCO literacy projects in South Sudan!

A year ago, it was ILAB President Norbert Donhofer’s idea that ILAB should take part in the worldwide celebrations on UNESCO World Book and Copyright Day. Now, on 23 April 2015 from noon to 3 pm the ILAB Pop Up Book Fair at Norbert Donhofer Rare Books on top of Vienna will be one of 30 worldwide ILAB events on that day!

Norbert Donhofer and his son Matthias – famous to ILAB affiliates, because he shot the decisive goal in the football match ILAB vs Italy during the ILAB Congress in Bologna 2010 – will welcome all who are interested!
